Cambridgeshire Field Trial Society Novice Retriever Trial, Thursday 1st December 2016 - Swaffham Prior, South Cambridgeshire. BKPO Messrs Henry & George Hurrell.

FT Sec (Ret) Sue Stonebridge reports:

Our judges were Mr Keith Bedford (A2202), Mr Peter Fulcher(B2618), Mr Julian Williams(NP) and Mr Arthur Cook (NP3752). (Julian had very kindly stepped in when one of our original judges had to withdraw.)

Our Guns were Mr Richard Sheard, Mr Ian Carpenter, Mr Kevin Crawley,Mr Darren Curtis, Mr Jon Demarious and Mr Ken Byron, who shot extremely well, giving testing game for the dogs to find.

The ground was a new location for trialling so I gathered feedback from the landowners, judges, guns and most importantly the trialers, who had nothing but good words for the skill of the keeper Gary Pearson, in ensuring game was a plenty, I hope we can return in future years.

The winner of The Eric Simpson Memorial Cup was:
Abbottshall Pioneer Of Higgscroft, a Golden Retriever owned and handled by Dan Higgs.

We also had a Guns' Choice:

Minstead Rocksavage Of Bearbrace , owned and handled by David Brown. (The guns commented that this dog consistently showed that it was to be their choice throughout the trial.)

Many thanks to those who helped, Tracey Chesser for dog stewarding for me, and to those carrying game and the red flag, without you and the keeper we wouldn't have had such a brilliant day to watch.

The Society's particular thanks go to Mr Henry & Mr George Hurrell for the very kind invitation to Adventurers Farm. We were delighted to be accompanied in the line by Mr George Hurrell who showed great interest throughout. We could not have had better hosts and very much hope to be able to return!
